I was once told by a supervisor that I would never find someone willing to marry me because I had too many children.
At the time, I had two daughters of my own and was helping raise another little girl part-time. Those words could have made me feel as though my children were baggage or that loving me came with too much responsibility.
But God had a different story for my life.
At almost 20 years later, I am married to a man who not only loves me, but has always loved my children as if they were his own. If you ask him how many children he has, he will proudly tell you, “Five—four girls and one boy.”
When people see their pictures and ask, “All of those kids are yours?” he looks at them like they have lost their minds and says, “Yes, they are all mine.” Almost as if to say, “How dare you even question it?”
He never made a distinction between mine, his, or ours. In his heart, they were simply his children.
I love the way he loves my children, but even more importantly, I love the way he loves me. He never saw me as a woman with “too many kids.” He saw a woman and a family worth loving—and he chose all of us.
Sometimes the words people speak over your life are not your truth. They are simply proof that they cannot see what God already has waiting for you.
